Sticky Light utiliza un diodo láser de baja potencia (<1 Miliwatt), unos pequeños espejos direccionables y un simple fotodetector para realizar seguimientos en tres dimensiones a objetos o figuras. Sticky Light utiliza un elemental fotodetector para que un pequeño láser pueda realizar admirables movimientos y suaves recorridos capaces de seguir contornos de figuras, improvisar sencillos videojuegos y hasta jugar en la remera de un asombrado muchacho. Sticky Light combina la elemental y primitiva herramienta conocida como “lector de barras” (que todos conocemos de los hipermercados) con la detección y reconocimiento de objetos 2D y 3D mediante láser. Esto último se logra a través del sistema desarrollado por el profesor Cassinelli y su equipo en el que también trabajan Kuribara Yusaku y Stephane Perrin. De esta conjunción, y gracias a un software y hardware específico, Sticky Light cobra vida en el seguimiento de contornos de figuras 2D en tiempo real y en videojuegos animados por una luz láser muy sensible, suave y movediza.

SHAPE - La nueva tecnología que está siendo utilizada en la lucha contra el virus del SIDA.
La estructura del genoma de la variante mas comun del virus del SIDA, HIV-1, ha sido recientemente caracterizada utilizando una nueva tecnología "SHAPE", que crea una imagen de las formas y pliegues de las hebras de ARN. En casos como el virus del SIDA, el conocimiento de la secuencia genómica del virus no es suficiente, ya que las proteinas estan codificadas en dos niveles: además de la correlación entre codones (grupos de tres nucleátidos) del ARN con aminoácidos, las proteinas del HIV dependen de los niveles superiores de la estructura del ARN, que codifican para cadenas aminoacídicas que unen dominios. El trabajo también permitió a los virólogos identificar unos patrones del ARN del virus del SIDA, que hasta ahora no habían sido descritos, y que probablemente tengan un papel regulador.
Kevin Weeks, el científico que dirigió el equipo de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte, dice que tiene esperanzas de que su trabajo “abra muchas rutas de investigación nuevas para el descubrimiento de medicamentos. Ahora hay una nueva y enorme lista de cosas que podemos intentar”.

Proyecto Claytronics
Carnegie Mellon en conjunto con intel, están trabajando en un programa para el desarrollo de materia programable, con el nombre de Claytronics.
Este proyecto combina robótica modular, nanotecnología de sistemas e informática, para crear proyecciones 3D dinámicas. Una idea mas clara de lo que se pretende con este proyecto se ve en el siguiente video:
